I was always the biggest child of all my friends throughout my childhood. I thought that I was just "designed" to be a bigger person. I was at my heaviest weight, but didn't know what that weight was because I refused to step on a scale. I was at a point in my life where I was depressed and sad all the time. I didn't want to leave the house because none of my clothes fit properly and I didn't feel comfortable in my own skin. I knew that I needed to change but didn't know how. I was ashamed of how I had let myself become. I also didn't know if I wanted to start a "diet" and be unsuccessful. I knew that I needed to be healthy for my son. I didn't want him to be ashamed of his mom because she was so large. It was time for a change, but I knew that it had to be a lifestyle change and not just a diet. I didn't want to gain all the weigh back and be unhappier than I already was.
"I took control of my life. I took a chance on myself and believed in what I could do. I am so proud that I was able to show myself that I am worth it. Living life is so much more fun when you are eating to fuel your body and not just eating because you are sad, mad, glad, or bored. I am so proud that I stuck with the lifestyle change and continue to do so everyday. In this full-circle moment, I am also proud that I am now an Ideal Protein Coach and can hopefully help other people change their own lives. We are worth it!"
Lifestyle Building - Losing the weight
I was so surprised by how I was able to motivate myself. I was not motivated by the number on the scale but, moreover, the way that the scale was moving in the right direction. Every week that I went to weigh in, I knew that what I was doing was working. I was the one who was making a change in my own life.
Lifestyle Living - Keeping the weight off
I enjoy life so much more now that I’ve lost the weight. It sounds so cliché but, the reality is that life is more fun. I have more energy when I wake up in the morning. I am able to be active with my son and husband. I want to be out and enjoying biking or cross-country skiing. I feel like I am more alive than I ever have in my life. I always thought I was living, but the truth is that I was not actually living - I was going through the motions of life and just passing each day. I am thankful for the simple things like being able to go shopping. When I walk down the street, I feel a newfound confidence that I never knew I could have.
