I’ve been overweight all of my life and have tried many different diets over the years. Most worked for a short period of time but I usually gained the weight back plus more. The successes rarely kept me motivated to stick with it for a long period of time. My highest weight was 292 but I have stayed between 230-250 in more recent years. I have exercised for several years because I believed the misconception that exercise could overcome my diet. I walked, took Zumba and kickboxing classes and had a personal trainer. I had a great support system but never could find the right balance with food. Sometime before I found Ideal Protein I became interested in the Keto diet. I knew carbs were the problem in my diet but I was having trouble giving them up. I was an emotional eater and carbs were easy and comforting. I found a Keto diet plan and recipes on the internet. I liked everything I tried and lost weight but carbs always snuck back in. I went right back to over eating carbs and fats and was getting sick.

Lifestyle Building - Losing the weight
The first week was tough. I didn’t realize how much bread, tortillas and potatoes I ate on a regular basis. By the third day I was starving. I know I was eating enough so I wasn’t concerned but I just didn’t like being hungry. I contacted my coach several times and she encouraged me to push through it because it would get better the second week. I adjusted my eating times, ate more raw vegetables and added warm tea a couple of times a day. It worked and by the second week I wasn’t hungry and had the opposite problem of forgetting to eat. By the third week I had adjusted to the changes and was on a good path. The videos were very helpful during the process because they explained how things worked one step at a time. I love information and want to understand why I need to do things. With the Ideal Protein foods and Jeneva’s Ideal Recipes cookbook I had a good variety to choose from each day. I never got bored and found that I liked foods I never thought I would eat. I was excited to plan my meals for the week because I was trying something new each day. I adjusted to not having the breads, potatoes and rice because the Ideal Protein foods were great substitutes. I was able to make some of my favorite foods - toast, pizza crust and taco salad. I also had a dessert every day. The Ideal Protein and Walden Farms products were good substitutes. I missed avocadoes, peanut butter and cheese but I knew I didn’t have to give them up forever. I’m a very social person so I was concerned about eating out and drinking alcohol. My friends and family knew what I was doing so they let me choose places I knew I could make good choices. I decided not to drink alcohol until I was in phase 4. Giving up certain things for a short period of time was easier than I thought. It also motivated me to stick to the plan. The sooner I lost the weight, the sooner I could have those things again. The weight loss was incredible and kept me motivated. Most weeks I lost 3-4 pounds, some were less but knowing how the weight broke down into water, fat and muscle helped me not worry about the low weeks. Sometimes it was a loss of fat but gain of muscle. Other times it was just water weight. I have never lost weight that consistently and that quickly. I had a goal to lose 50 pounds but that was just a number. I would phase off when I got to the right place where I felt good and was happy with how I looked. When I lost 35 pounds I was there. I couldn’t believe how thin I looked. People were so shocked when they saw me. I started phasing off and lost another 5 pounds for a total of 40 so far.
Lifestyle Living - Keeping the weight off
I enjoy getting dressed because I’m not dressing to hide the lumps and bumps anymore. I feel good in everything I put on. I appreciate my workouts more. I feel amazing and can finally see the muscles I have built up over the years. It sounds weird but I enjoy eating more. I have limits now so I’m pickier about what I eat. If I’m going to eat carbs and fats then it has to be great quality food. It hasn’t been hard to stick to the limits on the foods or the alcohol. I’m finally where I have always wanted to be in my relationship with food. It doesn’t control me anymore. I can’t believe how easy it was this time to get there. There is no doubt in my mind that this it and I won’t have to fight my weight anymore.
